Settler discussion series
What does it mean to live on Indian Land?
There are still a few spaces available for this great series that we are offering to donors and supporters!
4 Weekly Online Zoom Sessions Beginning Tuesday, January 6th, 2026
The Settler Discussion Series (SDS) curriculum was created by GAP’s founder, Katie Koopman, in response to the momentum of Canadians deeply grieved by the recoveries of the 215 residential school children at Kamloops Indian Residential School on May 27th, 2021, and the subsequent findings of additional unmarked graves across the country. SDS was developed with the consultation and approval of Indigenous advisors.
This series presents the truth about non-Indigenous/Indigenous history by addressing the topics of Privilege, Land, Residential Schools, and Allyship in a factual and linear way.
Participant learning outcomes include:
- Understanding the motives of colonization, which influenced those in power in pre and post Confederation Canada;
- How these motives have historically demonstrated harm against Indigenous people. Specifically, how these motives are a direct result of the creation and enforcement of the residential school system;
- Connecting historical anti-Indigenous policies and laws with current-day injustices;
- Practicing anti-racist language and applying allyship and advocacy in practical situations.
Interested in participating? A Zoom link will be emailed to participants one week before the session begins.
Good Ally Program (GAP) commits to upholding the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s invitation to provide reconciliatory education for all Canadians.
GAP understands that our country cannot propel justice and equality forward without first reconciling that Canada’s identity is rooted in harmful, colonial policies and attitudes that contribute to the intergenerational trauma experienced by First Nations, Métis, and Inuit people today.
Further, the Good Ally Program seeks to engage all Canadians in necessary, educational conversations to help restore good relations between non-Indigenous and Indigenous Canadians.
Katie Koopman, founder of Good Ally Program, a Settler Ally and friend to the Nii'kinaaganaa Foundation, will facilitate the Settler Discussion Series.
